GP Storm Vs SG Saints - pregame notes - Jan 29th

Okay, tonight's the first Kings game since being added to organization, there's a Storm game on 104.7 Free FM here in GP, and am attempting to do stuff on blog & Elite Prospects all at once - this is multitasking at it's finest... though my "death mode" laptop (which I plan to have replaced in the coming few days) is slow as heck and has it's problems that come with being well... 8-9 years old, there just so happens to be wireless here in the Eastlink Centre (leisure centre) which is attached to the Coca-Cola Centre (home of the JDA Kings)... so I can use "death mode" laptop to get a bit done, and not have to fully use up my data plan on 5-6 week old cell phone... haha!

Anyways...
- - - - -

Game notes for tonight...

I was on the bus eating my supper from Quizno's while Jeff said the Storm lines, so those aren't available to me here now.

But here is what I do have...
*Saints players D #3 Mike Williamson & D #21 Carson Soucy back in the lineup, returning from injuries.
*Saints therefore down to 5 APs (from 7 last game - due to emergency circumstances, via mass injury casualties): LW Daniel Huculak (who assisted on the first Saints G tonight), LW Liam Gregor, RD Graydon Smith, RW Tyler Mrkonijc & RW/C Riley Simpson (who scored the first G for the Saints tonight). As it's also almost 100% their jerseys or at least one of theirs, are different tonight than they used to be, I will sort those out after I get back home likely after 11pm post-Kings-game.
*Storm changes into C/RW #23 John Webb coming into the lineup replacing D #25 Brandon Hodge - which gives the Storm 12F & 6 D (instead of 11/7 last game).
*G #20 Nick Kulmanovsky gets the start for Storm, with G #1 Kenny Cameron on the the end of the pond.
*Storm announced new captaincies in light of captain RW #15 Taylor Cote out for at least the season (well... Jeff said pre-game Cote MAY be out for the season - so there IS, even if a slim chance, a chance of his return before the end of the 2012-13 season/playoffs): new captain (potentially an interim C) is LW/C #29 Mike Forsyth, LD #3 Sasha Larocque & LD #22 Scott Milnthorp remain as A's, and new A goes to RW #16 Ryan Baskerville.

Ah to heck with hyperlinking now... wireless has gone to slowness now... not sure if it's my laptop, many people using wireless here, or wireless issues... but I'll hyperlink and update this later as Kings guy are here already so I may as well head to the arena next door. Gonna be a busy night for me... am going to try juggling all 4 jobs tonight, and we'll see how it goes.

Onto the "Coke can" for me though... will try keeping up with Twitter for both games if possible... hehe!

AJHL update - Jan 28th

Before I get much further - I'm very proud to say I'm now part of the Grande Prairie JDA Kings Jr B (NWJHL) organization and very eager to get started with them for tomorrow night's game against Fort St. John! I am hoping to get the N-dub 100% up to date on EP tomorrow (well besides player histories I will have to scrounge my best to fill as best as possible), but for now I will focus on the lone AJHL game and notes from the league, and get to bed for a well needed & well deserved rest. Let's just say stuff away from the blog, Storm, Kings, EP work... really made my day today extremely hellish - but thanks to a great friend of mine, it was almost fully forgotten!
- - - - -

One game tonight:
  1.  Brooks beat the Canucks 3-2 in OT at the Max Bell Centre in SE Calgary. Definitely not saying bad about the Canucks - but one heck of a good result against the Bandits, considering the struggles and injuries they've fought through. I was personally shocked to find out it was this close of a game. Which isn't a total surprised, being #1 in the country and all - Bandits outshot fairly heavy (39-27). Bandits C #21 Anthony Paskaruk scored the OT winner, and also was the lone 3 point player of the night (1G, 2A), and deservedly earned the Bandits game star of the night.
- - - - -

Changes:

Brooks:
*According to the current game sheet (in light of the multiple players strangely originally listed on game sheets Saturday only to strangely be removed after), LD #7 Shane Pilling returned to the Bandits lineup last night.

Calgary Canucks: - As for the Canucks... their roster is just about as hard to keep track of now, maybe even harder, to figure than the Saints!
*C #25 Sam Plaquin - his case still baffles me. From what I've heard he is an AP/reserve guy, and therefore should be fully carded with a Jr. B team... but I cant find him listed anywhere currently. His last Canucks playing time was a 3 game in 4 night stretch on the 17th, 19th (here in GP - I have the paper game sheet with his name on it) & 20th. What his status is and where he is, I have no clue - there fore he's still "with the Canucks" to me. Unfortunately his tweeter bird doesn't help out one bit either.
*According to the current game sheet, LW #25 Keith Csizmadia returned to the lineup for tonight's game (from "Broken thumb, out indefinitely").
*G #1 Cody Befus, who was backup for last game, was back down with CBHA Rangers Jr. B (CalJHL) for a game Sunday.
*F #40 Spencer Bender, was up & played last night against the Bandits, from the Calgary Royals Midget AAAs (AMHL). He will likely be back with the Royals on their next game on Feb 1st.
*RD #7 Owen Johnson, was also up & played, from Calgary Buffaloes Midget AAA (AMHL). He will likely be back with the Buffaloes on Feb 2nd.
*LD #5 Jake Dube (was #7) was also up & played last night, from the UFA Bisons Midget AAAs (AMHL). The Bisons next game is Feb 2nd.
*Former #7,  D Zach Fowles, was back with Edge School (Prep) for an MPHL game Jan 25th.

- - - - -

Fort McMurray:
*Thanks to the watchful eye of Trevor Howlett, I found out that RD/F #25 Joey Stadnicki actually did not return from injury (Broken collarbone, expected back (after 6 weeks, as of Jan 17th) by Feb 28th), and he is in fact still injured. I didn't screenshot it, like all the other 'phantom players' from the 26th, but I was fairly awake. I'm 100% certain he was originally listed as playing last night, and at least 3 others I remember offhand were also erroneously listed and later removed (I'm pretty sure it was 5 in total, but as I'm tired I'm not going to bother going back to Jan 26th post now to confirm)... not sure why the 'epidemic' of it happening all at once on Saturday... but I guess it was one slough of coincidences at once. My best assumption there.
- - - - -

As for me, I best get to bed! I tried my best to celebrate the new job the last couple days of limited AJHL updating to do... but due to stuff outside my 4 jobs (yeah, I know it sounds crazy that I work on 4 jobs now... haha! Friggen workaholic!)... a lot of it dealing with a seemingly endless amount of technology not working properly (my ancient 2004 laptop I think is officially obsolete and needs to be replaced... tonight before I gave up on doing anything but playing poker while at a seafood restaurant for all I could eat crab - the dang thing would freeze up steadily with any sort of browser open and the music on it was aggravating to even here... freezing/skipping every half second... you know a computer is at death when it does crap like that hey!), and well... 'personal relationship' stuff... I really had a hellish day today. Big thanks to my buddy Cam for saving the day - but between the beer at the seafood restaurant and out with him and some co-workers, I ended up having more beer in one day I believe since June. The strange thing is I'm more sober and 'with it' right now, than I was during those amusing tweets/post the one night last week... it's somewhat baffling! But, off to bed I go... I badly need a well needed LONG & well deserved catchup sleep, after only sleeping 12 hours in the last 2 days!

AJHL update - Jan 26th

Kind of a crazy night in the AJHL tonight/Saturday... with 4 of 6 games ending up with very lopsided scores at the end. There's going to be a lot of 3+ point players and moves... I can foresee it already.
- - - - -

Scores:
  1. Sherwood Park Crusaders beat Bonnyville 3-1 in... Leduc. Relatively even game, with Bonnyville having a bit of a shot edge in the first and 3rd. A lot of PIM but no one cleared 15, so I wont get into that too much. Not bad turnout in Leduc - 790, for a non-league city for a regular season game. No one with 3 points in the game... probably one of maybe... 2 games, at most this will be the case.
  2. Bandits beat Canmore 8-3 in Brooks. It was a tight game... until the 3rd period. When the mighty Bandits awaken... dang, watch out! Not sure what the heck happened in the intermission... but a 5 goal 3rd period for them, after a 3-3 game heading into the 3rd. Wow, 5 PP goals in the game also - both teams over 25% efficiency! Eagles' LD /F #8 Trey Phillips with 3 A's, but the Bandits had the main 3 pointers... LW #13 Anthony Petruzzelli (2G, 1A), RW # 15 Cam Maclise (1G, 2A) along with - RW #8 Mark Reners & C #21 Anthony Paskaruk (both with 3A).
  3. Oilers beat Camrose 7-0 in Okotoks. A very dominant one-sided game for the Oilers from start to finish. A fair amount of penalties with 2 Kodiaks' with 17PIM (to save time I'm only going to hyperlink guys that clear 20PIM from now on). Oilers' D #10 Robbie Fisher (2G, 1a), C #12 Chris Collins (1G, 2A), & RW #17 Greg Lamoureux (1G, 2A) - all with 3 point outings.
  4. Lloydminster beat the Saints 4-0 in Spruce Grove. A bit of a surprising result (no offense meant to the Bobcats)... until a person looks at the injury ravaged Saints lineup. I'll know for sure later, but from initial counts, I'm pretty sure the Saints had 7 AP skaters in the lineup alone! That is something else... I don't believe the Canucks even had so many at their most injured plagued time(s). Few penalties and few points in the game... one Bobcat goal was unassisted, 2 others only had 1 assist. Bobcats G #33 Devin Green with the shutout.
  5. Thunder beat Grande Prairie 4-3 in OT in Drayton Valley. It was the Storm's game after the first with a 17-11 shot advantage though the score was tied. Shots wise, the Thunder took over after that big time, with a 27-12 advantage in the 2nd & 3rd before that one shot edge in OT (3-2), and in a sense that lone shot edge gave them the win. LW #17 Trevor Poirier, with the Thunder's OT winner.
  6. Oil Barons beat Wolverines 6-0 tonight in Whitecourt. Major internet/phone problems at the Scott Safety Centre tonight (as I've been in touch with some involved with the team), but the game was definitely a 6-0 final, per a tweet from Tyler King (Kinger) and confirming it is a tweet from the Wolverines. It's currently stalled at 16:28 of the 3rd period on the online game sheet, but as it ended 6-0 the main credited game stats (besides shot and G #s and PIM) of Gs, As, Pts should be complete. Also according to Tyler King tweet, G #31 Tanner Jaillet becomes first G to post a shutout against the Jr A Wolverines, in the AJHL. Somehow the MOB didn't have anyone with more than 2 points - total team effort there in that regard. League leading scorer, Wolverines' LW #15 Mathieu Guertin is really making a run at former teammate LD/C #25 Mathieu Gagnon's PIM totals (259PIM... listed on a hidden profile - it's unfortunate that due to how the ESportsDesk sites are set up, now that Guertin is no longer with the Wolverines, his PIM total does not show in the league PIM list) - with a 26 PIM night which eventually led to being tossed before the last stats update for the game was made.Update on the game after stats were finalized: Loads of final penalties added in and changes made. Guertin is no longer listed as the PIM leader of the game, and no MOB player had over 20PIM. RD #28 Conner Dea with 29PIM, and RW #27 Trace Elson with 22PIM.
So... with this game a confirmed final, this is what the AJHL standings should look like now, as I have them on EP (and YES I am aware of the out of date map... I have frustratingly basically given up hope on it ever getting updated. If I had the ability to upload the map update now, I would... but I don't, and it ticks me off royally that it STILL has not been updated, after first messaging about it in May 2012!):

Changes - to save time as I need to get to bed very soon, I will post the transfers onto EP and update hyperlinks tomorrow (it also helps me out tremendously that tomorrow/Sunday & Thursday are days off from AJHL play... I must, and will take full advantage of those days!):

Bonnyville:
*RW # 12 Christian Nypower was back with the Cold Lake Ice (NEAJBHL) for a game Friday.
*RW #14 T.J. "Thomas" Cunningham was not in the lineup for that game, but could have been for last night/Saturday's game as the NEAJBHL game sheet for the game is not currently up. not back in Ice lineup as of yet, so either he is hurt or... a healthy scratch... or... who knows. Still with the Pontiacs to me until otherwise proven.

*RW #89 Ty Carey back from injury (Upper body injury, day-to-day).
*C #10 Marc Dubeau back from injury (Cold/flu/illness, day-to-day).

Sherwood Park - no known changes since last game

Canmore:
*RW #13 Nils Moser, though still listed as hurt on AJ Eagles' stats/roster, is back from injury (Broken foot suffered in December, out indefinitely but hopeful to return for playoffs)... but still on reserve, and still an AP. I'll have to do some messaging tomorrow [Messaged] to see if he's fully carded with a Jr. B team somewhere (Banff & Cochrane, HJHL, are closest?), so hopefully will find out something. He must have been erroneously listed on game sheet last night, and it's since been removed that he played. I've been told he was still in crutches at Friday's Eagles game... so definitely didn't play.

Brooks:
*Bandits LD #3 Chris Muscoby has committed to the University of Vermont (NCAA) for this fall, as of today.
*Though still listed as hurt on AJ Bandits stats/roster, F #12 Tyson McCallum is back from injury (Upper body injury suffered Jan 11th, expected back Jan 25th - Feb 8th).

Okotoks:
*Strangely C Matt Forchuk - who's up from the UFA Bisons Midget AAAs (AMHL) & LW Jack Goranson - who's up from Red Deer Chiefs Midget AAAs (AMHL) are listed are both wearing #18 on the game sheet from the Oilers game last night/Saturday. Edit: What in the heck... both crossed out players have since been removed from the game sheet... I could see one of them being removed, but not both. I may have to re-edit Oilers stats from last night, along with the MOB/Wolverines game that was unable to be completed last night... hmm, very strange! Besides those 2 having their game credit removed, no other stats for the Oilers changed from last game. Maybe there was just 2 guys accidentally listed on the roster? Same thing happened for the DV/Storm game the other night - I went on and edited that LD #6 Allan MacPherson did not play (there was 19 Storm skaters listed up til then)... not a big deal to fix up hey! So it easily could be what happened to the Oilers roster for this game.

Lloydminster:
*A lot of missing game sheets of late on the NEAJBHL site that could possibly show that AP C #19 Ryley Wozniak was back with St. Paul Canadiens, so as of now he never left the Bobcats to me. If I find out otherwise later I'll link it in. Edit: Hmm, no Ryley on any of the now updated game sheets up to last night's game. Kind of strange - maybe the Bobcats we're able to carry him all weekend.

Spruce Grove - the absolute mess that is the Saints lineup, due to mass injury casualties... think I should message[-d] up Travis Ziegler (Saints play-by-play guy) to see if I got this mass confusion, sorted out right... [but have not heard back. Will try the Saints tweeters, for confirmation.]
*LD Jamie Vermeulen up from St. Albert Raiders Midget AAAs (AMHL) & played. Was #3, now #4
*RW/C Riley Simpson up from SSAC Athletics Midget AAAs (AMHL) & played. Was #20 [& #18], now #19.
*RW #14 Tyler Mrkonijc up from St. Albert Raiders Midget AAAs (AMHL) & played.
*RD Clayton Kirichenko up & played. Was #4 [& #2 & #37], now 21.
*RD Graydon Smith up from Leduc Oil Kings Midget AAAs (AMHL) & played. Was #4 [& #25], now #7
*RW Brett Smythe was back down with the St. Albert Raiders Midget AAAs (AMHL) on the 16th, & up & played Saturday. Was #14 [& #25], now #17

Grande Prairie:
*C/RW #23 John Webb could be with the Storm until Feb now, as the Sexsmith Vipers (NWJHL) don't play again until Feb 1st.

Drayton Valley - no known changes since last game

Fort McMurray:
*RD/F #25 Joey Stadnicki, returned to play from injury (Broken collarbone, expected back (after 6 weeks, as of Jan 17th) by Feb 28th). Edit: Will address this is Jan 28th post.
*D/C/F #8 Daniel Petten was back down with Fort McMurray Barons Midget AAs (NAMHL) last night.
*D/F #5 Taylor Graham & LD #10 Matt Purmal, were confirmed in email to me today from Trevor Howett today, as new permanent assistant captains per talking with MOB GM/Head Coach Gord Thibodeau.

Whitecourt:
*AP LD Jordan Davies was #5 now #2.
*LW #16 Jacques Bernier (was 17) was up and played last night, but will likely be back with CAC Edmonton Canadiens Midget AAAs (AMHL) for Feb 2nd.. was on last night's game sheet but was later removed.

Quick suspension update:
January 25, 2013 - Brooks player, Alex Roberts, and Drumheller player, Mitchell Gartner, are each suspended for one (1) January 25, 2013 - Brooks player, Alex Roberts, and Drumheller player, Mitchell Gartner, are each suspended for one (1) game as a result of being involved in a secondary fight during a January 25, 2013 game in Brooks.  The suspensions are to be served during the respective teams’ next regularly scheduled League game., 2013 game in Brooks.  The suspensions are to be served during the respective teams’ next regularly scheduled League game.

So, RW #16 Alex Roberts, served one game Saturday and is eligible tomorrow/today/Monday for the Bandits. D/F #28 Mitchell Gartner will be at the least missing game Wednesday, and should be eligible to return Feb 2nd. Also according to what I heard through the grapevine - Gartner was outright released by the Dragons. My mind is over half tired now so this may be remembered incorrectly. Someone besides Bonnyville C #16 Travis Wellman was definitely released though.

I had an extremely hard time pulling together to complete this post tonight... I think it is due to excitement and eagerness to start my new (4th) job! I'll likely post a bit about it tomorrow, but if anyone is curious check my Twitter cover... and it will give it away.

Need to sleep now though - am hoping to get the NWJHL fully up to date tomorrow!

Quick-ish belated Storm @ Thunder game notes - Jan 26th

Okay, super quick notes. I was going to type down the Storm lines for tonight, but too much going on after only getting back home finally just after 7.

I missed one bus earlier on the way for late lunch/supper, then am 100% certain at least 1, maybe 2 buses didn't show up tonight... ticked me off! Thanks a lot GP Transit - at least most of the drivers are pretty nice though, but heck... what is wit the missed buses? Supposed to be 30 minute service 3-6pm Mon-Sat... yeesh! Oh well, no point bitching & moaning about it - got to make the most of the rest of the night and get to a load of things!
- - - - -

I didn't catch all the scratches, but for sure offhand for the Storm there's LW #24 Adam Boytinck (suspension), C/RW #23 John Webb - who was in the Sexsmith Vipers (NWJHL) lineup yesterday (healthy scratch), C #7 Sam Lawson (3rd concussion of the season) & captain RW #15 Taylor Cote (post-concussion symptoms, out for the remainder of the season, at the least). Thunder scratches included LW #16 Ty Bettac and C #21 Eric Sieben (serving 2nd game of suspension)... pretty sure there was another 1 or 2 for them but cant recall offhand now.

Storm starting lineup:
C #13 Devin Case-RW #16 Ryan Baskerville-LW/RW #17 Ryan Mathews
LD #3 Sasha Laroque-LD #4 Tyler Haiste D #5 Drew Nikirk-LD #22 Scott Milnthorp
G #31 Curtis Skip gets the start

Thunder starting lines (at least what I caught - my apologies for incomplete):
C #28 Neil Tarnasky-RW #23 Doug Jones-LW #27 Frederic Tanguay
D's... not sure...
G #1 Marc Olivier Daigle starts

Back to game tweets and lots of updating I've got to do tonight...

AJHL update - Jan 25th

Let's see how fast I can get this update active, with only one more game (5 total) than on Tuesday (4), so I should be able to pull off this update relatively quickly... I hope!

Here goes:
- - - - -

As I noted above, 5 games tonight in the AJ:

1. Crusaders beat the Saints 4-2 in Sherwood Park. The shots totals in this game were insane... I'm hoping they're accurate though but I just got league confirmation that they're 100% accurate - that is something else there! Full out offensive game there - a person has to wonder where the D was in this match, or at least shot blocking.. and if there was shot blocking - yikes!! The reason I'm a a little suspicious is because the goalie stats were definitely entered incorrectly as according to it right now no Cru G received a win, but the real giveaway is that according to it now the only goalies that actually played were both of the Saints goalies, with neither Cru G even getting credited with any time played, though it appears G #31 Matt Tomkins, at least, was the starter. I've definitely got to bug the league about this one... Email just passed onto the league for correction. In case anyone wondering what in the heck I am talking about:
The above has since been fully updated. As for the actual game though... if anything what sticks out the most to me besides the crazy shot total (57-56 SP), is all the slashing calls made - 6 in the 1st & 3rd periods! Cru LW #15 Garth Wallin with a 3 point game (1G, 2A) - speaking of Wallin, can anyone confirm if he played for the St. Albert Flyers Minor Midget AAAs (AMMHL) in 07/08 (as the stats are not arrived online that far back)? I've got to say - I personally would have given both G's the game star - heck even losing G #1 Kenny Cameron had a .930 save % in the game! That's something else there! Cru G #35 Matt Tomkins, as I mentioned earlier in the crossed out part, was however the game star for Sherwood Park.
2. Bandits beat Drumheller 5-2 in Brooks. Drumheller actually outshot in the game by 5 (31-26) but a 2 goal 3rd period for the Bandits sealed the victory, in a huge turnout in Brooks (nearly 1300) - the largest attendance I remember seeing there offhand, recently. A lot of penalties but no one clearing Dragons RW #24 Tristan Reimer's 20PIM. Bandits C #21 Anthony Paskaruk with a 3 point game (1G, 2A).
3. Eagles beat Camrose 4-3 in OT in Canmore. Relatively close game with Canmore with a slight edge in shots in the 1st, 2nd and OT resulted in overall outshooting by 7 (36-29). A remarkably low # of penalties - 4 in the game, all to Camrose. Canmore RW #17 Zack Rassell was the lone 3 point player (1G, 2A - that seems to be the pattern tonight).
4. Calgary Mustangs beat the Oilers 5-2 in Okotoks. Okotoks outshot heavily in the game, by 19 overall (49-30), but could only stuff 2 by G #1 Ravi Dattani - who was understandably named road star of the game. Mustangs F #21 David Norris with 3 points (again, 1G & 2A).
5. Fort McMurray beat the Wolverines 5-3 in Whitecourt. Wolverines outshot by nearly double (29-16) but the Oil Barons held off the attack - that effort in goal earned MOB G # 31 Tanner Jaillet, the road star. The MOB continue to amaze/impress me with their post-trade deadline record, which is somewhat surprising after trading away all overagers except current captain C #9 Mike Marianchuk. Which doesn't surprise me at all with tonight's pattern - the leading scorer again had 3 points (1G, 2A). Only difference is that both teams had a guy with these totals - MOB RW #8 Hayden Dawes & league leading scorer Wolverines LW #15 Mathieu Guertin, who now has 76 points in 44 games.
- - - - -

Changes:

Spruce Grove - this is looking like it could get lengthy...
*RW #7 Parker Mackay, now injured (Upper body injury suffered Jan 24th, day-to-day).
*D #21 Carson Soucy, also now injured (Lower body injury suffered Jan 19th, expected back by Feb 2nd).
*LD #5 Brandon Hickey, also now injured (Upper body injury suffered Jan 25th, expected back by Feb 8th)
*D/F #4 Cole Nicholson, as I never did confirm as I forgot to post the recall/game played for the Saints Jan 9th onto EP, was back down with the Lloydminster Bobcats Midget AAAs (AMHL) as of the 12th. He was also up playing tonight for the Saints. He doesn't have another Midget AAA game scheduled until Feb 3rd, so many more opportunities to dress for the Saints.
*LD #17 (was #4, #21 & #25) Connor James, was up and played tonight for the Saints also from the Lloydminster Bobcats Midget AAAs (AMHL). As I said of Nicholson - same opportunities are there for James to dress again for the Saints, with no Midget AAA games until Feb 3rd.
*C #18 (was #25) Tyler Busch, who is also from that very same Lloydminster Bobcats Midget AAA team (AMHL) also played tonight for the Saints, and as the other 2 is next set to play Midget AAA Feb 3rd. Earlier in the season it seemed like the St. Albert Raiders Midget AAA team were the seemingly primary affiliate team of the Saints - now it's looking like the Midget AAA Bobcats have taken over that claim.
*LW #21 (was #14) Mathieu Lapointe - whom either I missed was recalled on the 19th or he was added onto the game sheet after the game/my league update (he also was then first added/listed as an AP), was back with Knights of Columbus Pats Midget AAAs (AMHL) on the 20th, was also playing tonight for the Saints, and his Midget AAA team is back in action Feb 2nd.
*Newly listed AP/reserve LW #14 Liam Gregor was up and played tonight also for the Saints, from the Leduc Oil Kings Midget AAAs (AMHL). His Midget AAA team wont be back in action again until Feb 3rd.

Sherwood Park:
*LW #18 Arthur Gordon is out with injury (Upper body injury suffered Jan 19th, expected back Jan 26th-29th).
*LD #6 Marshall Donald is out with injury (Lower body injury suffered Jan 25th, day-to-day).
*Since he was recalled/moved to active, but did not play, here's a screenshot showing C #26 Darcy Zaharichuk on the active Cru roster, up from Sherwood Park Kinds Midget AAAs (AMHL).
*LW #25 Bryce Woodward was, as expected, back down with his Lloydminster Bobcats Midget AAA (AMHL) team on the 19th.

Drumheller - surprisingly, no known changes.

Brooks - surprisingly no known changes there either... hopefully it is a pattern as I am desperate to not only finish this, but to get to bed as quickly as humanly possible!

Camrose - again, no know changes... this is a rarity (maybe even a first for me on the blog) - three teams with no known changes in a row!

Canmore:
*LD/F #6 Nikolas Kosman returned from injury (Arm injury, status uncertain).
*LW #7 Carter Jensen returned to CRAA Gold Jr. B (CalJHL) for a game tonight.
*RW # 16 Dylan Houston, is likely back tomorrow with Three Hills Thrashers (HJHL) for a game there.

Calgary Mustangs:
*LW #11 Matthew Alfaro was up and played tonight (well Friday night, as it's now 5:37am, but you get my drift!), from Calgary Northstars Midget AAA (AMHL). The Northstars don't return to action until Feb 2nd.
*C #26 Matt McNair returned to action to play for Edge School Prep for an MPHL game tonight.
*F #29 Vincent Paquette was up and played on Jan 22nd, from Calgary Flames Midget AAA (AMHL). He had to have been added in later... I am certain I would have came across him if he was listed on the roster when I updated the games for that day. The Flames don't play again until Feb 1st.

Okotoks - no known changes. Four out of 5 ain't bad at all for me to finish this up sooner.

Fort McMurray - no known changes, besides LD/F #7 Mike Green possibly being with/having a Jr B team, in between games with the MOB - hopefully will find out for sure for the next update or two.

Whitecourt - surprisingly no know changes here either.

All complete! I am so proud I was able to do a daily update on a peak Friday and/or Saturday... even though it's after 6am, but whatever - this is something to build off of for sure! Likely will be back attacking this blog, with that secondary N-dub update ahead of the Saturday night AJ update! Here's hoping it all works out well!

Long belated 1st full NWJHL update

N-dub update:

This, like anything and everything else I do on EP since the start of the season not AJHL related, has been massive delayed due to well... the AJHL, daily stats updating of the league (or as close to it as possible), and my ever evolving work with the Storm - becoming a huge part of my life since the creation of this blog. But, for the simpler reasons that - this is my local Jr B league and I do have past, present and will have future ties to this league, and that I may likely be working within the league in some capacity in the future; it only makes sense for me to take on daily updates for the N-dub, as I refer to it, along with the AJHL updating/work. So here goes - I am hoping to get a basic post done insanely fast, before I head to bowling alley in 37+ minutes... but it's doubtful I will complete it by then - but as usual... expect me to give it my all to pull it off!

Due to an insanely slow library wireless signal combined with my ancient laptop running at complete crap speed before I had to head to the bowling alley, I only managed to list off the changes for Beaverlodge & Dawson Creek.

I've decided now, that as it's 3:34am already now, I am only going to list off changes below on this post since my last NWJHL update 'ages ago'. So basically this is going to be part one, or a preliminary update that I will likely hyperlink player profiles in later for and likely re-mention all involved below on a complete post/N-dub update to be done tomorrow.

I'm also pretty sure this is the first full update of the league I have done since this blog was started - so this is the first NWJHL post of any kind here (besides notes of Samuel Lauzon being an AP wih the AJHL's Whitecourt Wolverines, and Landon Hall being affiliated now with Fairview Flyers - also from the Wolverines).

And that is that... 1st/preliminary post, is done for now. More after I get a well needed, well deserved long rest!

AJHL update - Jan 24th

Relatively quiet night, as most Thursday's are in the AJHL schedule, with only one game tonight:

  1. Fort McMurray beat the Thunder 7-3 in Drayton Valley. A fairly even game overall, with the Thunder having a slight 1st period shot lead (13-11), and a larger lead in the 3rd (9-5), with the Oil Barons dominated the 2nd with a 16-9 shot advantage. A bit of an explosive finish with 4 penalties resulting from a fight between the Thunder's LW #9 Brendan McKay & the Oil Barons' RW #14  Alex Cromwell (both received 5 for fighting and a game misconduct - I believe that's an automatic suspension so late in the game) with 12 seconds to go... not quite as crazy as the last 12 seconds in GP last night, though. Speaking of these 2 games, I definitely have to check over the disciplinary link before I finish this post... that's a certainty... could be a lengthy update there... anyways thought - back to this game specifically.
- - - - -

Changes:

Fort McMurray:
*LD #7 Mike Green (Who I have no recollection of, being listed as an AP until now), returned to the lineup tonight, from "Concussion, expected back in late January". As newer friend/contact Trevor Howlett (Fort McMurray Today sports reporter & photographer) informed me in some messages over the last couple days, it sounded very likely Green would return for tonight's game as of yesterday - and sure enough, he did return. Here's a screenshot showing Green, along with F #15 Jordan Clark who was also recently changed to an AP - who also just so happened to return to the lineup tonight in Drayton Valley (from injury: Fractured tibia/ankle, expected back in late January"):
*RD/F #25 Joey Stadnicki's injury is now certain, also thanks to Trevor informing me of his story last week. The injury, as I posted onto EP now: "Broken collarbone, expected back (after 6 weeks, as of Jan 17th) by Feb 28th"
*Also posted in Trevor's article there, D/C #8 Daniel Petten was up with the MOB practicing with the team on last Thursday but didn't get into any game action. He hasn't been back in the Fort McMurray Barons Midget AA (NAMHL) lineup since though, as they currently have a fairly lengthy break (13 days off) until playing again Saturday.

Drayton Valley - hmm, no know changes, though I suspect they have an un-provable injury or two.

Suspension update (from AJHL Disciplinary Report link)- not as many as expected from the game here in GP last night, but a couple from that game and a few others:

January 24, 2013 - Grande Prairie player, Adam Boytnick, has been suspended for two (2) games as a result of being assessed a major penalty for checking from behind during a January 23, 2013 game in Grande Prairie.  The suspension is to be served during the Storms’ next two (2) regularly scheduled League games.
January 24, 2013 - Bonnyville player, Alex Smith, has been suspended for one (1) game as a result of being assessed his fifth fighting major of the season during a January 23, 2013 game in Grande Prairie.  The suspension is to be served during the Pontiacs’ next regularly scheduled League game.
January 23, 2013 - Drayton Valley player, Nathan Smith, has been suspended for one (1) game as a result of being assessed his fifth fighting major of the season during a January 18, 2013 game in Spruce Grove.  The suspension is to be served during the Thunders’ next regularly scheduled League game.
January 23, 2013 - Calgary Mustangs player, Stefan Virtanen, has been suspended for two (2) games as a result of being assessed a major penalty for kneeing during a January 22, 2013 game in Calgary.  The suspension is to be served during the Mustangs’ next two (2) regularly scheduled League games.
January 21, 2013 - Calgary Canucks player, Ty Morgan, has been suspended for three (3) games as a result of being assessed his sixth fight of the season during a January 20, 2013 game in Whitecourt.  The suspension is to be served during the Canucks’ next three (3) regularly scheduled League games.
Okay... so, Storm LW #24 Adam Boytinck, will miss Saturday & Tuesday's games and be eligible to return Feb 1st against Fort McMurray. As for Bonnyville C #22 Alex Smith, he will miss Saturday's game in Leduc against the Sherwood Park Crusaders (who I've heard, rumour has it are planning of possibly moving from Sherwood Park to Leduc and this is more or less a test to see what kind of community support they get) but will be eligible to return Jan 29th against Whitecourt. Drayton Valley RW #20 Nathan Smith served his suspension during tonight's game against Fort McMurray and is eligible to return Saturday against Grande Prairie. Calgary Mustangs RD #20 Stefan Virtanen will serve his suspension is tomorrow (Saturday) & Tuesday, and is eligible to return Feb 2nd against the Calgary Canucks. Calgary Canucks C/LW #21 Ty Morgan served one game Tuesday, and will serve the other 2 games this following Monday & Wednesday, and be eligible to return Feb 2nd in that very same game against the Mustangs Virtanen is available to return for, for the Mustangs.

AJHL update - Jan 22nd-23rd

A slow-er day than Friday & Saturday, but still 4 games/half the league playing. Since it doesn't make much sense to split posts with everything that I came to know about the Pontiacs and Storm lineups for these 2 days, while updating stats - Tuesday and Wednesday are getting combined.

Post is now complete... managed to stay awake long enough to complete it, and not start typing crazily again or have my vision go haywire in one eye already!

[Tuesday] Scores:
  1. Bonnyville beat the Storm 3-2 here in Grande Prairie. Was a fairly close tight game, especially for the first 2 periods overall. Was really rough in the first so and less so in the 2nd, and barely in the 3rd. 2-0  Pontiacs after 1, 2-2 after 2, then the 3rd period... Pontiacs outshot 13-4 but only outscored by one for the win.
  2. Bandits beat the Canucks 6-2 in Brooks. Another dominant game by the Bandits, shots and score. RW #8 Mark Reners & RW #19 Dakota Mason each with 3 points (both with 1G, 2As).
  3. Camrose beat the Mustangs 3-0 at the Father David Bauer Arena in NW Calgary. Dominant game by the Kodiaks, besides the 3rd period where the Mustangs outshot 13-4, but couldn't buy a goal. All 3 Kodiaks goals scored in the 2nd. Kodiaks G #35 Matthew Gibney with the shutout.
  4. Bobcats beat Sherwood Park 4-1 in Lloydminster. Fairly even in shots until the 3rd, with a 12-5 period by the Cru. Loads of penalties, especially in the 3rd... the summary there is like a mile long... hehe! Bobcats F #7 Nolan Yaremchuk with 3 points (2G, 1A).
Wednesday scores:
  1. Canmore beat the Dragons 5-1 in Drumheller. A very one sided game by... Drumheller, in shots. Not in score. Kind of a strange game in that regard. In other words - very rough game for Drumheller starter G #35 Adam Beukeboom, who allowed 5G on 18 shots, where as G #35 Ty Swabb on the other end, stopped 34 of 35. RW #17 Zack Rassell, with 3 points (1G, 2A).
  2. Bonnyville beat the Storm 5-1 here in Grande Prairie. Close game in shots, not in score. Was your average close game, barring the score, for most of the game... there were penalties, but nothing like the last 12 seconds of game time... that was insane... took me like half an hour to get the penalties straight and get them updated properly onto the game sheet... hehe! Strangely, no one for the Pontiacs had more than 2 points.
PERIOD 3

Bonnyville Pontiacs at 19:48 - Alex Smith for Misconduct (10 Min.)
Grande Prairie Storm at 19:48 - Adam Boytinck for Game Misconduct (10 Min.)

Grande Prairie Storm at 19:48 - Jade McMUllen for Fighting (5 Min.)
Grande Prairie Storm at 19:48 - Adam Boytinck for Checking from behind (5 Min.)
Bonnyville Pontiacs at 19:48 - Alex Smith for Instigator (2 Min.)
Bonnyville Pontiacs at 19:59 - Christian Nypower for Goaltender interference (2 Min.)

- - - - -

Changes:

Bonnyville:
*RW #12 Christian Nypower is up for and played last night & tonight, from the Cold Lake Ice (NEAJBHL).
*Cold Lake teammate RW #14 Thomas "T.J." Cunningham also up and played last night & tonight - a new AP/reserve listed. Cunningham, some AJHLer observers may remember, started the season with the Calgary Canucks playing 7 games, scoring 1 assist and adding 17 penalty minutes (as TJ Cunningham), on a now hidden AJHL profile separate from his current active one with the Pontiacs (as Thomas Cunningham). As far as what I've been able to find thus far and what Bonnyville play-by-play guy Robb Hunter (who's standing to my right as I update stats here for the Jan 23rd game in GP - I've kind of assumed the role of late) knows - Cunningham went directly to the Ice from the Canucks and played his first game for them Nov 28th, but if someone knows different feel free to drop me a line. Both Nypower & Cunningham will likely be back with the Ice for a game Friday.
*C #10 Marc Dubeau was/is sick & both games here in GP.
*C #18 Tommy Barszcz served the last game of his 2 game suspension and is in the lineup for today's game, Wednesday the 23rd, in the 2nd half of doubled header here in GP against the Storm.

Grande Prairie:
*C/RW #23 John Webb is up from Sexsmith Vipers (NWJHL) as I knew personally as I've seen him up in the booth here both nights.
*Captain RW #15 Taylor Cote as I've heard publicly and updated onto Storm AJ stats/roster - out for the season at least, with post-concussion symptoms.
*C #7 Sam Lawson, as according to what Jeff Henson said to Robb Hunter line on radio on the Kool FM Bonnyville broadcast, is out with his 3rd concussion of the season and is out indefinitely. Team is taking very cautious approach to his return, probably with thoughts of captain Cote's status on their minds pretty good.
*LD #4 Tyler Haiste left the game last night and went to hospital, and initially it sounded like a serious long term wrist injury. He ended up retweetingTerry Farrell (GP Daily Herald Tribune's sports reporter)'s tweet last night confirming the injury, though he also tweeted about it also from the hospital. As he said to Jeff in an intermission interview, and later confirmed to me himself - he's likely back in the lineup Saturday in Drayton Valley. I love being able to update injuries onto the Storm AJ stats/roster, not that I figured out how to - makes it look a bit better, and all I'm entering there is public knowledge also (if Jeff or Robb, for example, says it on air - it's public after all. I've still got to add guys with the "major junior" icon yet too).
*RW #16 Ryan Baskerville, took a bit of a slapshot in the mouth last night from teammate, assistant captain LD #3 Sasha Larocque. I was constantly hearing that he lost 3 teeth, but Terry Farrell (who took a chair between myself & Robb) assured me it was only 1 and that Basky tweeted a pic of it. True enough!
*C #18 Braeden Music returned from day-to-day back injury on Tuesday. He also originally wore #19 for the Storm, post-trade from Canmore.
*LW/C #27 Brett Printz, originally wore #18 when first acquired by Storm from Kindersley (SJHL).
*LW #24 Adam Boytinck left the game tonight with potential shoulder injury (according to what Jeff said on radio)... if not he could very well be suspended for a hit he made seemed to trigger the chaos that happened with 12 seconds left in the game tonight. In fact, after the game while talking with others within the organization, there's thought that the Storm could possibly have 3 guys suspended from what went on tonight... could be a very different lineup Saturday...
*D #25 Brandon Hodge, returned from Pneumonia, day-to-day, for game tonight.

Brooks:
*LW #37 Taylor Makin, returned from injury (Lower body injury suffered Jan 6th, expected back Jan 20th - Feb 3rd) last night.

Calgary Canucks:
*As expected, I got confirmation from G #1 Austin Hannaford's father that he's back in Calgary and should be in the lineup for their next game Friday night, with the CNHA Blazers Midget AAs (HCMAA).
*LD/F #5 Evan Reid made his AJHL debut for the Canucks last night/Tuesday, up from the Calgary Royals Midget AAAs (AMHL). He'll likely be back in the lineup next for the Royals on Feb 1st.
*More recent G #1 Cody Befus (presumably a 4th/5th/6th stringer), was the back up on Tuesday night. He'll likely be back for them on Friday's game.

Lloydminster:
*LD #27 Linden Springer was back in the lineup last night, from suspension (2 game suspension as a result of being assessed a major penalty for hitting from behind, eligible to return Jan 22nd).

Sherwood Park:
*Callup LW #25 Bryce Woodward played Tuesday night, but will likely be bac k to his Lloydminster Bobcats Midget AAA game in Tuesday night.

Canmore:
*LW/D #7 Colton Sandboe was up playing last night, from Grande Prairie Storm Midget AAAs (AMHL). He will likely be back with this Storm team, for their next game Feb 2nd.
*As far as I know former #7 LW Carter Jensen, has not been with his CalJHL Jr.B team., as he did not show on tonight's game sheet for the Jr. B CRAA Gold game.
*RW #16 Dylan Houston was back up in the Eagles lineup, up from the Three Hills Thrashers (HJHL). He will likely by back for the Thrashers game on Saturday.

Drumheller - no changes I'm aware of... which usually means they're healthy.
